Established 20 years ago - and a vital part of local gardening life - Brooklands has continued to grow in stature over the years.

The recent addition of a stone built coffee shop at the site in Scholes, which offers sweeping views across the Holme Valley, is already a popular choice with visitors.

Owner, Carl Brook, said: "We are a proper garden nursery offering quality plants. The addition of the coffee shop, however, is something we felt would be of benefit to visitors. Having built it in the style of a dry-stone wall and with large windows to make the most of the view, we feel it fits well with the peaceful rural surroundings."

Brooklands offers the gardener, nursery prices on thousands of shrubs and conifers with their outstanding collection of 200 varieties of hanging baskets, tubs and bedding plants. Hanging baskets are made to order although a large selection are for sale. Look out too, for unique terracotta pottery, varieties of herbs, alpines, herbaceous perennials and fruit trees. Brooklands is also a stockist of quality composts including Humax Growman.

Visitors to Brooklands are delighted to see the large pond and collection of ornamental waterfowl, always popular with young families.

Because of its quite rural location Brooklands is regularly used as a filming location by The last of the Summer Wine. An allotment has been specially created on the site for filming purposes.

With the site offering spectacular views over New Mill, Butterley and Jackson Bridge, Carl decided in 2000 to improve the nursery with the addition of a coffee shop. After careful planning and great attention to detail, the coffee shop opened earlier this year. Serving sandwiches, speciality teas and coffees, light meals, snacks and daily specials,
